ST. PAUL—John Earl Kelly, 31, alleged check forger wanted in the Twin Cities is held in the city jail here. He was arrested at Eau Claire, Wis., Friday and brought to St. Paul by two local detectives. It is alleged he tried unsuccessfully to cash forged checks on Wisconsin banks totaling several thousand dollars. Kelly has cashed worthless checks at Twin City department stores, police said.
He is alleged to have made his biggest attempt at the game at Eland, Wis., where he deposited checks totaling $2,800 in the Eland State bank. He then attempted to check this money out to himself but the bank refused to honor his checks until they investigated, police said.
He is wanted also by the Minnesota state parole agent for violation of the conditions of a suspended sentence to the St. Cloud reformatory in 1921 for forgery.
