God Rest You Merry Gentlemen
After 54 days of historic debate, the General Assembly of the United Nations adjourned its 1946 session.
As a Christmas gift to the peoples of the world, the assembled delegates offered the hope of "Peace on Earth," not merely as a phrase, sung or spoken, but as a goal to be set and achieved.
As definite accomplishments, the Assembly can point to the fixing of a permanent site for the United Nations, the setting up of a 10-nation Trusteeship Council, and a refugee organization, the approval of an arms limitation resolution, and an anti-discrimination resolution.
These are, of course, but a few solutions of the many problems which confront the U. N., but they mark the beginning of a world in which "all nations may joyful rise."
God rest you merry gentlemen. Let nothing you dismay.
