That Webster Springs is destined to become one of the greatest health resorts in the United States was the belief expressed today by Sheriff Isaac L. Davisson, who with Mrs. Davisson and daughter, Margaret, returned last evening from the Springs where they spent several days.
When Sheriff Davisson left Clarksburg he weighed 165 pounds. Today he tips the scales at 172, showing that he gained just a pound a day while away.
There are six different kinds of mineral springs at Webster Springs and water from them is filled with medical properties, according to the sheriff who says that his appetite improved the first day after starting to drink the water.
"The only thing that has held Webster Springs back is the lack of transportation facilities" said Sheriff Davisson, and now that a fine hard surface road is being built from Adrian, in Upshur county, to the Springs, the place is bound to become a great resort and health center.
"A standard gauge railroad also is needed to take the place of the present narrow gauge one that runs from Holly Junction to the Springs".
The sheriff and his family made an inspection of Elk river and he says he was informed by sportsmen that the water for fish breeding in this stream is as nearly perfect as any in the United States.
Fish are now to be found in abundance in the stream, Sheriff Davisson says.
"The woods of Webster county are now filled with squirrels" said Sheriff Davisson, "and there is plenty of other small game. There are also bears and deer right in the vicinity of Webster Springs."
