Eisenhower's Pilot to Take New Post in Alaska

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Col. William G. Draper, President Eisenhower's personal pilot and the man who brought the jet age to the White House -- is preparing for a transfer to Alaska.

The 40-year-old airlines pilot tentatively has been assigned as Deputy Commander of the 5070th Air Defense Wing of F102 supersonic jet fighters at Elmendorf Air Force Base.

The Air Force said his orders probably will not be issued until early January. Draper plans to take his new post in April.

Draper reportedly asked for the assignment.
