In tackling the case police were confronted by a "locked truck" mystery. The four guards regularly assigned to the vehicle had parked it behind the Wardman Park Hotel while they lunched in the employees' cafeteria of the hotel.
They said it was their regular practice to do so. They insisted they had left the truck securely locked.
The bag containing the $65,000 in small bills, was part of a total cargo of up to $265,000.
HAD DUPLICATED KEY
Police Inspector Jeremiah Flaherty said Farmer entered the truck with a "duplicate key." It was speculated that he might have had the key made in the days when he worked for Brink's.
