Removal of Col. Viall

Col. J. A. Viall is no longer Superintendent of Indian Affairs, as we learn by a private dispatch from Washington of the 11th inst. We are not at all surprised to learn this, as it was generally understood that Col. Viall would resign on the meeting of Congress. There has existed a difference of opinion as regards the Colonel's fitness for the office, and manner in which he discharged its difficult duties. No man, however. who succeeds him but will meet with criticism on his action. So far as we had business with Col. Viall. he always deported himself like a gentleman, and exhibited a sincere desire to give satisfaction as Superintendent of Indian Affairs.

No information has been received here as to who succeeds him.
