Full Text

Answering the call of Coach Frank J. Murray, more than 50 mole-skinned warriors will go into training at the Marquette university football camp on the island at Lake Beulah, Wis., Monday.

The squad will remain in camp for almost three weeks before returning to Milwaukee, and the present schedule calls for heavy workouts every day. Coach Murray and his assistants, Freeman Fitzgerald and Lloyd Scott, face great problems, not the least of which is to have eleven in tip-top shape for their game with the Navy at Annapolis, Oct. 11.

In a pre-season statement, Coach Murray made known that he expects about 15 lettermen of the 1923 undefeated squad to return but that reserve material would not be as plentiful as it has been in recent years.

Marquette has not lost a game since November, 1921, and great things have to be accomplished if that record is maintained.

In addition to the Navy game, Marquette has intersectional battles with Boston college in Boston, Nov. 8, and with the University of Vermont in Milwaukee, Nov. 27, besides home games with St. Mary's, Oct. 4; John Carroll, Oct. 18; Creighton, Nov. 1; and North Dakota, Nov. 15. An informal practice game will be played with Lombard college at Galesburg, Ill., Sept. 27.

Heading the list of returning Marquette players is Capt.-elect, La Vern Dilweg, all-western end.

Among other veteran lettermen are: Fahay and Flaherty, ends; Lunz and Lane, tackles; Cartwright, guard; Sullivan, center; Curtain, quarterback; Bader and Demoling, fullbacks; Heimsch, Skemp, Vallier and Leichtfuss, halfbacks.
