FRED FISH ELECTED ON EAST CHICAGO BOARD

(Special to The Times.)

East Chicago, Ind., June 14. -- The city council last night elected Fred Fish to serve on the board of education, to take the place of James Spittle, whose term has expired.

Mr. Fish is the labor superintendent at the Inland steel mill and lives in Commonwealth avenue.

When the business of electing the school trustee came before the council, Alderman Carl Anderson of the fifth ward placed Mr. Fish in nomination, and his name was promptly seconded by Alderman Ferdinand Ketzcik.

James Burns then offered the name of Frank Callahan, the contractor, John Galvin seconding the nomination.

It was decided to make the appointment by secret ballot, the clerk acting as teller. When the ballots were counted they gave Fish six as against Callahan's three votes. Alderman Mysliwy being the only absentee.
