Mott Middleton, Esq., were bitten by a rat-
tlesnake at his plantation, a few miles from
Savannah, on Saturday night last. They
were walking together and trod upon the
reptile, which immediately inserted its fangs
in the foot of one and ankle of the other.—
The overseer, a colored man, upon hearing
their cries, went to their assistance. Know-
ing well the danger of their situation, there
being no physician nearer than the city, he
had to rely on his own untutored skill, which,
however, turned out most fortunately. He
drenched the little sufferers thoroughly with
whisky, and buried their wounded feet in
the earth, keeping it well moistened around
them. In this situation, and perfectly
stupid from the effects of the spirits, they
were kept for several hours, and when heard
from last they were both doing well, and
considered entirely out of danger. Savannah
Republican.
