LOUISIANA.—Considerable excitement is felt in Louisiana, in relation to the election of a Representative to Congress from the second Congressional District of that State. Mr. Gurley, an able and indefatigable statesman, who has for many years represented that District in the National Legislature, is opposed by Mr. William S. Hamilton, of Baton Rouge; and it is probable that the election will be warmly contested. The only sin charged against Mr. Gurley, by the opposition, is that he voted for Mr. Adams instead of Gen. Jackson, and that he does not oppose the present administration. His capacity and integrity are not doubted by the most vehement of his opposers, and yet they wish to remove him from an honorable and important post, because he will not consent to follow the views of the faction.

Mr. Gurley is a native of Connecticut; and surmounting many difficulties in youth, he fitted himself by his industry for the occupations of useful life, when he removed to Louisiana and commenced the practice of the law, and was soon after elected representative to Congress. Heretofore he has been elected unanimously, and we doubt if the opposition will succeed in ejecting him from his post of usefulness and honour.
