TAKEN SICK IN A SALOON
Leaves a Wife and Baby in Davenport From Whom He Lived Apart.
Henry Lorenz, aged 27 years, a victim of quick consumption and exposure, died at 4 o'clock this morning at police headquarters, shortly after he had been delivered there in the ambulance, having been taken from a saloon at 2610 Fifth avenue, where he was taken ill.
A physician was summoned on the arrival of the ambulance at the station, but Lorenz was dead when he reached him.
He leaves a wife and son residing in Davenport, but had not been living with them of late. His brother, John Lorenz, was until a week ago proprietor of the saloon at 2610 Fifth avenue. Henry had been hanging out there and had refused to go home to his wife and child.
"My brother's former health had been good," said John Lorenz, "but lately he had been in poor health, on account of cigarettes and dancing and catching cold. He had been with me three or four weeks. I quit the saloon business a week ago. During the time he had been with me he had been sick, but had been up and around all the time. I tried to get him to go home, but I could not control him."
Inquest Over Body.
Coroner L. V. Eckhart conducted an inquest over the remains at Knox's undertaking rooms, the jury, composed of Dr. C. T. Foster, foreman, M. A. Hollingsworth, John Schmitt, James Dowling, Gus Kirsch and John Oltman, returning a verdict that death was due to "consumption and exposure."
Burial will be at Davenport.
