Full Text

A storm seems gathering that portends the most disagreeable consequences to England, as letters from Elsinetur received here, dated the 19th of last month, confirm what has been advanced in the papers, of the preparation making by Sweden for fitting out a fleet of observation for the protection of their trade in the channel and bay, from what they stile the depredations of the English. The letters add, that it was expected this fleet would pass the sound stor about the 10th of April, and would consist of 7 ships of the line and 3 frigates; that they were to sail for the Texel, there to be joined by 10 ships of the line and 6 frigates, from the United Provinces of Holland, &c. under sailing orders for the same destination. What gives these accounts the strongest appearance of probability, is the known and prevailing influence of France in the Councils of the Court of Stockholm. It may not be amiss to acquaint our readers, that these advices have been communicated to us by the same channel that furnished us five weeks ago with an account of the loss of Senegal, which we communicated to the publick: We hope, however, this intelligence will not be so unfortunately verified.
