KILLS FORTY-TWO
Two Cars Wrecked In Indiana
Victims on Way to Fair.
In a collision between two trolley cars on the Wabash Valley Traction line near Kingsland, Ind., forty-two persons were killed outright and several others seriously injured. Many of the victims were on their way to the Fort Wayne fair.
The scene of the wreck, said to be the most disastrous in the history of electric railroad operation, was eighteen miles south of Fort Wayne, seven miles from Bluffton and half a mile from Kingsland. The accident occurred on a sharp curve just north of Kingsland, which prevented the crews of both cars from having warning of danger until an instant before the crash.
The cars which rushed together were an empty southbound limited, which had been dispatched to Kingsland to bring in the crowds to the Allen county fair, in progress at Fort Wayne, and a crowded northbound car bringing a holiday crowd to Fort Wayne. Most of the victims were residents of Bluffton, and the entire town is in mourning.
