"CRIMSON EYEBROWS"

The operetta (Crimson Eye-brows) repeated for benefit of the Sumter Chapter U. D. C. was greeted with a large enthusiastic audience Tuesday evening.

The stage was very artistic. A Chinese garden scene with flowers and evergreens in profusion. The costumes were bright and beautiful especially in the moonlight. A pantomime of beauty gave the setting for the opera. The striking lighting effect was furnished by Mr. E. H. Rhame, Jr.

Such unusual talent was shown by the young people that Sumter has reason to be proud. Many of the guests expressed themselves as believing that this entertainment, coached by Mrs. J. A. Stubbs, the best home talent production in Sumter for many years.

Each young lady did her part well and impersonated the character she represented in a creditable way. The cast received much applause which was responded to generously were as follows:

Princess Ling Ling (daughter of former emperor) - Miss Louise Allen.

Wang Mang (usurper emperor) Miss Ethel Stuckey

Yi Kang (the court astrologer) --Miss Virginia Warren,

Koo Moo (Old Buddha)-Miss Lula May Shaw.

Ah Me (Ting Ling's cousin)- Miss Louise Phifer

Fanchong (leader of Crimson Eyebrows)-Miss Ethel Laurence.

Hing Lee (an officer in court) Miss Katherine Wilder

Yen Chen (who impersonated Neptune)-Miss Sara Baldwin

The choruses did their parts well and added much to the entertainment.

Little Marion Kirchner was a feature of the evening with her skillful dancing and her original piano solos.

Elizabeth Rowland sang a Chinese song which was one of the most enjoyable numbers of the entire program.
