Maysville District Conference of the M. E. Church, South.

MT. CARMEL, KY., May 21.-The Maysville District Conference of the M. E. Church, South, will convene in this place to-day at 9 a. m. Your correspondent arrived last evening and is receiving every kindness at the home of Mr. J. T. Power. Mr. McCarthy's large omnibus from Maysville yesterday was crowded with ministers, lay-delegates and visitors to the conference.

The accommodating driver was in a genial mood, and was certainly taking a decided interest in the Methodist Conference.

We are pleased to find in attendance at the conference Mr. Jas. F. Robinson and wife, and Mrs. John Bruer and daughter of your city.

Last evening Rev. J. S. Sims preached in the Methodist Church from Genesis vi, 4; "There were giants on the earth in those days." The speaker alluded to the revelations of geological science in reference to the huge animals that once inhabited the earth, much larger than any of the present time. Sacred history teaches that there were orders of men in ancient times correspondingly larger than any that exist to-day. Yet there are giants now. Giants physically, giants intellectually, giants morally, and giants spiritually. The sermon was replete with beautiful figures, was delivered with grace and power, and was listened to with marked attention.

Rev. W. T. Benton, the pastor in charge at this place, said at the conclusion of the service that his people were glad to have the conference in their midst, and that there was entertainment for all who might attend. He is very kind, giving attention to each and all.

The writer hopes to be able to give you short sketches of the lives of some of the elderly divines who are here. The following named ministers were present at the service last evening: Dr. W. H. Anderson, of Carlisle; Dr. J. A. Henderson, of Maysville; J. S. Sims, of Flemingsburg; D. B. Cooper, of Millersburg; J. W. Brock, of Vanceburg; W. T. Benton, of Mt. Carmel; H. C. Wright, of Bethel; R. H. Wightman, of Hillsboro; S. A. Day, of Mt. Olivet; E. F. Oney, of Concord; F. S. Pollitt, of Washington.
