LIVEZEY NEW PRESIDENT

Chamber of Commerce Holds Annual Election of Officers.

MUST HAVE THE NORMAL SCHOOL

Members Express Willingness to Contribute to Fund to Be Offered as Inducement to Legislature—Subscriptions May Be Asked For.

That everything possible must be done to bring the new State Normal school to this city seemed to be the unanimous verdict at the Chamber of Commerce meeting last night. Several members expressed their willingness to contribute to a fund, and it is very probable that subscriptions will be taken to raise a handsome sum to be added to the $15,000 and five-acre site offered by Mr. C. B. Orcutt and the Old Dominion Land Company as inducements to have the school located here.

The Chamber by unanimous vote elected all of the officers nominated at the last meeting by the nominating committee. The new officers are:

President—W. B. Livezey.

First vice-president—Elias Peyser.

Second vice-president—S. R. Buxton.

Third vice-president—C. D. West.

Treasurer—J. E. Warren.

Trustees—A. L. Powell, W. S. Upshur, C. K. Weaver, Charles E. Cole, James Haughton, J. R. Sprague, J. T. Ballentine, H. B. Holmes, Dr. R. T. Stull and the officers.

Mr. H. B. Holmes, who during the past year has made the chamber an active and efficient president, and the other old officers retired with last night's meeting.

A letter was read from the Norfolk Chamber, urging united action in the matter of asking the legislature to appropriate funds for the erection of a State building at the Jamestown Exposition. The body decided to send representatives to Richmond and do everything possible to assist in securing the appropriation.

Considerable routine business was disposed of.
