Plaintiff In Historic Supreme Court School

SPRINGFIELD, Mo., - Linda Brown, plaintiff in the Topeka, Kansas, school integration case that, along with others, led to the May 17, 1954 U. S. Supreme Court decision, was awarded a scholarship here today to integrated Drury College.

The official legal name of the famous 1954 decision is "Brown versus Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas," taken from the suit of the Brown family, which alphabetically, came at the head of the five cases joined and decided at the same time by the High Court.

The 17-year-old high school senior earned four "A's" and one "B" last quarter. Her overall average at integrated Central High School is "B-plus."

Miss Brown moved here from Topeka two years ago with her family. Her father, Rev. Oliver Brown, is pastor of the Benton Avenue Methodist Church and a longtime NAACP member.

"I am proud to be the symbol of the Supreme Court's historic decision," the soft-spoken student told fellow NAACP youth council members.
