Immediately upon the Duke of Bedford's entering Westminster Hall on Horseback, who rode as Lord High Constable of England, and Earl Talbot with him as Lord High Steward, loud Acclamations were given, which frightened the Horses, and it was with the greatest Difficulty his Grace managed his, being the most unruly. Upon Which an Officer entered the Hall, and requested Silence; then Mr. Dymoke, the Champion, with his Attendance, entered, and throwing down his Gauntlet, or Steel Glove, a Herald proclaimed the Challenge, in the following Words:
"If any Person, of what Degree soever, high or low, shall deny, or gainsay, Our Sovereign Lord King GEORGE III. King of Great Britain, France and Ireland, Defender of the Faith, &c. Grandson and next Heir to our Sovereign Lord King GEORGE II. the late King deceased, to be Right Heir to the Imperial Crown of this Realm of Great Britain, or that he ought not to enjoy the same, here is his Champion, who saith, that he lieth, and is a false Traytor, being ready in Person to combat with him; and in this Quarrel will adventure his Life against him, on what Day soever he shall be appointed."
