SAVANNAH, Ga. -(SNS)- The Adjourned Session of the General Missionary Baptist Convention of Georgia, Dr. L. A. Pinkston, president, ended one of the greatest sessions in the history of the body here Thursday at Bethlehem Baptist Church. Rev. E. J. Dyson, host pastor.
The morning Session featured an address delivered by Dr. O. J. Moore, president, Bryant Theological Seminary, Fitzgerald, Ga., on "The Need for Religious Education." The Seminary is on the job preparing leaders and workers for the Kingdom of God. President Moore solicited a greater cooperation on the part of the Convention in advancing the work of the Seminary
The Convention hailed President Moore as a great speaker, preacher and educator promising greater support to the school.
The Laymen's Department, headed by Prof. H. S. Dixon, Bainbridge, held a fine session. Officers are in addition to Prof. Dixon, Dean J. T. Thompson, vice president, J. H. Johnson, corresponding secretary Savannah; T. U. S. Injury, recording secretary; T. G. Goodrum Atlanta, state organizer: S. C. Chapman, finance committee.
This department is making valuable contributions to the work of the Convention under the able leadership of Prof. Dixon.
The laymen are using for their theme: "Greater Enlistment for Christ Thru Laymen Activity."
Rev. I. J. Yancey, Augusta, conducted the Bible Institute for the pastors on Thursday morning.
Rev. E. O. S. Cleveland, Savannah, president, State Sunday School Convention, addressed the body. He said the Sunday School Convention would meet next June in Waycross.
The Woman's Convention made an able report thru the president Mrs. M. J. Thomas, Brunswick, who also presented Miss Jane Edna Hunter- founder of Phillis Wheatley Association, Cleveland, Ohio, who outlined the fine work she is doing to the Convention in a very impressive manner.
Reports were made by the following boards: Mission, Educational, Trustee, Georgia Baptist and Ministerial Relief.
The body passed a resolution thanking the host church and pastor for their entertainment.
The Rev. R. W. Hughes, Thomasville, stirred the Convention on Wednesday night with an able sermon. The people were in every available corner of the church Wednesday. It was, according to the Rev. Taschereau Arnold, public relations director, the largest attendance of any other Adjourned Session.
