King, Pechie Named At Caucus To Head G. O. P. City Ticket

Publisher Is Choice For Mayor. Ex-State Representative And Councilman to Run For Alderman-at-Large. Beausoleil Defeated By Carver For Registrar.

Walter N. King, publisher of The Windham County Observer, was nominated for mayor, and William W. Pechie, former alderman and state representative, was chosen as candidate for alderman-at-large at the Republican general caucus held Friday evening in the Municipal building. The sole contest of the evening was for the office of registrar of voters. Judge Mahlon Geissler acted as moderator at the caucus and Lucius P. Merriam as clerk.

Mr. King's name was placed in nomination by Arthur C. Keith, who moved that the vote be by acclamation. The nomination was unanimous.

In placing the name of Mr. Pechie before the caucus, Attorney E. C. Morse spoke of his as a native of Putnam who had served in the legislature as well as two terms in the common council. Considerable new blood is being injected into the council.

Council. Mr. Morse said, and in nominating Mr. Pechie we are naming a man who is a Republican through and through whose Republicanism has never been doubted. Aldemar Brodeur seconded the nomination, speaking highly of the nominee, who was selected by unanimous acclamation.
The only contest of the evening developed when Hermon G. Carver and Rosario Beausoleil were named as candidates for the office of registrar of voters. The contest was decided by ballot. A total of 217 votes were cast. Mr. Carver receiving 120 to defeat Mr. Beausoleil by a margin of 23 votes.
The remainder of the Republican city ticket, as named at the caucus, is as follows:
Charles H. Brown treasurer; Harvey Grinsell, collector of taxes, and Lucius P. Merriam, auditor.
Nominees chosen at the various ward caucuses last week were ratified at the session, and it was voted that the various ward committees comprise the city committee.
