GOVERNMENT
OFFICIALS MEET
IN BOSTON

W. A. Rooksbery, State Labor Commissioner, Presides As Chairman.

The Association of Government Officials of the United States and Canada held its eighteenth annual convention in Boston, Mass., at the Statler hotel, May 19 to 22.

W. A. Rooksberry, Labor Commissioner for the state of Arkansas, was present and presided at this meeting.

The aim and purpose of this meeting was to work out ways and means of getting accident prevention and to study and discuss the economic situation and working out some means of correction so far as the people are concerned.

Welcome addresses were delivered by Joseph Fly, governor of Massachusetts; James M. Curley, mayor of Boston; E. L. Sweetser, Commissioner of Labor for Massachusetts.

W. A. Rooksbery, State Labor Commissioner for the state of Arkansas, responded in behalf of the association.

It is impossible to name the many subjects and the speakers in so limited space, but many important phases of labor were discussed at length. Edwin S. Smith of William Filene & Sons Company of Boston, Mass; William T. Foster, author of "The Road to Plenty" and Fred C. Crexton, who was appointed by President Hoover as chairman of the President's Emergency Relief Committee, were outstanding speakers. The silver thread of their speeches was "Concentration of Wealth Into the Hands of the Few". They emphasized that there must be a wider distribution of wealth into the hands of the workers in order to increase the purchasing power of the nation.

After the business session was over the representatives were favored with a trip about selected places and industries in Boston.

The city threw open its doors and extended them every courtesy possible. A luncheon was enjoyed at the Institute of Technology. The climax of the social activities was a fish dinner served at a summer resort on the shore.
