These boats are built on three or four different constructions, but all calculated to draw as little water as possible.
There is one kind rigged into brigs, carrying from 4 to 6 guns, 18 and 24 pounders, besides a number of swivels.
Another kind without any deck, carrying one 18 pounder forward, and another aft, rigged into a lugger: and another kind with upwards of 100 feet keel, but built flat like a skiff, or bateau. These are to carry cavalry and artillery.
