MURPHY BULL IS INDICTED ON

MURDER COUNT

BROCKTON YOUTH TO STAND TRIAL ON PREMEDITATION MURDER CHARGE IN KILLING OF DAN MEDICINE HORSE, SR.

Murphy Crazy Bull, 22, of Brockton was indicted and charged "with premeditation and by striking and beating with a rock ... feloniously."

Murphy Crazy Bull, 22-year-old Brockton youth, has been charged with the murder of Dan Medicine Horse Sr. by a federal grand jury, according to an indictment filed in federal court at Helena. The body of Medicine Horse, 55, was found on the outskirts of Brockton November 13 badly beaten about the face and with his skull crushed. Archie Red Boy of Brockton made the discovery.

Murphy, who admitted to local officials that he had struck Medicine Horse on the head with a rock in self defense during a drunken fight, is charged in the federal indictment "with premeditation and by means of striking and beating with a rock feloniously murdered" Medicine Horse.

In a re-enactment of the fight following the youth's confession to Sheriff E. G. Shuman, Crazy Bull showed the officers where he had hidden the rock he used to beat Medicine Horse to death. He said that in the fight with Medicine Horse, he slipped to the ground and in so doing, felt a rock under his hand. He picked up the rock with both hands, and as Medicine Horse "moved in" to hit him, struck Medicine Horse fully in the face.

Crazy Bull said Medicine Horse spun around and then fell to the ground, face down.

It was then, Crazy Bull said, he struck, again using both hands to wield the clumsy weapon, bring it down upon Medicine Horse five times on the back of the head.

The fight occurred after Crazy Bull, young Medicine Horse and Dan Medicine Horse were drinking together in Brockton.

Crazy Bull said that when he left Medicine Horse, lying face down in the shallow ditch after the fight, he did not know he was dying.
