Though by no means so decisive as we could wish is yet of a favorable character as far as it goes. leads us to anticipate complete success in the termination of the campaign. We do not give credit to the opinion that gen. Hampton was about retiring into winter quarters, nor yet to the rumor of great reinforcements having reached Montreal by way of the S. Lawrence. It appears to us most probable that our army was on this day week in possession of Montreal.
