The conference of county commissioners and county attorneys held at Helena last week after considerable discussion agreed upon a new road law and recommended it to the legislature. The bill has been properly drafted and its passage will be actively pressed by the legislative committee. The bill closely resembles the law of 1895. It provides that the board of county commissioners shall district the county and appoint as overseer of each district some person who is recommended by petition by a majority of the taxpayers of said district. A road tax of $2 is provided for and it is recommended that the State Agricultural College adopt a course of road making in its curriculum. This bill evolved from the combined wisdom of the county commissioners and county attorneys of the state, whose experience should render them experts in the matter, ought certainly to prove a practicable measure.
