They pointed to speeches made within the last two months in which he said that it would never be necessary to impeach him; that if either branch of congress believed he had done wrong by accepting the baseball job, and passed a resolution recommending his impeachment, that he would immediately step down.
Judge Landis when questioned refused to comment on the Judiciary Committee's action, but admitted that nothing had happened to influence him to change the statements made in the addresses referred to.
'My resignation would be sent if the House voted a resolution condemning my action.' Judge Landis is quoted as saying. 'There is no doubt to my acceptance 'of the baseball job They have a right to their opinions and I have a right to mine.'
Judge Landis has been on the Federal bench for fourteen years.
