Prisons do Not Exclude God.

Written by Lady Gain when in confinement because of her religious opinion.

Strong are the walls around me.
But they who thus have bound me.
That hold me all the day;
My very dungeon walls are dear,
Cannot keep God away:
Because the God I love is here.
They know who thus oppress.
But know not one can bless me.
Tis hard to be alone:
He makes my dungeon's darkness bright
Who comes through bars and stone:
And fills my bosom with delight.
Thy love O God! restores me
And deep my soul adores thee,
From sighs and tears to praise;
I ask no more in good or ill,
Nor thinks of time nor place.
But unto thy holy will.
Tis that which makes my treasure,
Covering woe to pleasure.
tis that which brings my gain;
Day is enough, what e'er befall,
And reaping joy from pain.
To know that God is all in all.
