Capt. Jones of the Comet, Mr. King and Mr. Leeds (captured in the Friendship.) arrived in town last evening, in the stage from New-London. Mr. Leeds has politely favoured us with the following information.
The Saturn, on board which these gentlemen have been, had captured the following vessels during a cruize of near two months off New York, viz. schr. Comet, of Norfolk, captain Jones, from this port, then three days out. January 26, re-captured a brig, prize to the Lawrence privateer, Hooper prize-master. Jan. 28, schr. Industry, Cahoone, from Wilmington, N. C. for New York. Jan. 29, the sloop Friendship, George of Philadelphia.
The brig, when captured by the Lawrence had a prize-master, mate and three Frenchmen (a part of the crew of the Lawrence) put on board. Shortly after, the Frenchmen, assisted by the former captain, retook the brig; in doing which they killed the prize-master's mate and one man: After having possession of her three days, they gave her up again to the Americans. One of them (a mulatto) however, refused to submit, and jumped overboard. Every effort was made to save him, but without effect—The other two are now on board the Saturn.
The brig was afterwards re-recaptured as before stated,
The Friendship previous to her capture had been upset in a gale, and five out of seven on board were washed overboard—none however were lost.
