NEW YORK. (GLOBAL) This is going to be a banner year for its youthful crop of singers, according to veteran bandleader Noble Sissle, who has long been regarded as a good judge of talent.
The reason for this is very clear, according to Sissle. There are more youngsters breaking into show business than ever before.
With television, night clubs, theatres and motion pictures now using a considerable amount of Negro talent, much encouragement is offered the many young people who have been bitten by the stage bug. It's a hard road to travel but there are many who will survive and bloom forth as first class entertainers. Some may become stars although, on the basis of actual facts only one out of a hundred will make it, says Mr. Sissle.
When asked to name some of the more promising youngsters, he said, "That's a pretty hard question because some of the kids are really good. A few of them are outstanding like Tin Harper, Leslie Uggams, Edna M. Griff, Dolores Parker and that 10 year-old blues singer, 'Little' Esther. They are just starting out in the business but they are excellent and it makes me proud to see them coming nat.
"I never to hear Joe Louis p egn Dolores Parker, a few nights ago and she's a good looking hot gal with that Lena Buckner Trio.
Horneish mannerism Little Esther is one of the most promising young blues singers I have heard in the last two years.
"She's going to develop into another Dinah Washington and she has some tone qualities exactly like Ethel Waters had when she was a youngster," Mr. Sissle said.
