Full Text

The Indian Hostages—Black Hawk and his companions leave this morning for their own country, via Albany. They have visited the Theatres, Museums, and Public Gardens, and in every instance have attracted great crowds of people, anxious to see the savages who have dipped their hands in the blood of so many white men. They visited Governor's Island yesterday, previous to which they had collected at their rooms all the presents of beads, rings, chains, glasses, pictures, knives, &c. &c., which have been presented to them by various individuals, and on examining and admiring them they became much affected, and shed tears profusely. The Warrior [Naa Pope,] who has always been stubborn and perverse, and who has never been moved before, was particularly affected by the exhibition of presents which he had received. Major Garland has conducted his charge in a most satisfactory manner, and we have no doubt the object of the Government will be fully effected, and that we shall hear no more of the warlike excursions of Black Hawk and his Tribe against the Whites.
