Full Text

General Jackson.—The Washington Globe, in speaking of the late heartless and unfeeling hoax attempted to be palmed upon the community, in relation to Gen. Jackson, makes the following noble and feeling remark: "The heartless persons, who have made this torturing experiment on the feelings of a multitude whose love for Gen. Jackson is as strong as filial attachment, are unaware that his life is daily threatened by the weakness of his lungs, and that probably another hemorrhage would carry him off. In a late letter received from him, he says, 'my life hangs on a thread,' and in the last we had from him, (postmarked the 12th inst.) he tells us, 'my health is very feeble.' He writes, however, a long letter of five pages, for the most part, on public topics; characterized by all the vigor of intellect which ever distinguished him, and by 'that strong, unhalting hand' which indicates the honest, direct and resolved purposes of an unfaltering heart."
