BALTIMORE, April 14.—(U.P.)—
Glenn L. Martin, pioneer flier and designer and manufacturer of giant Clipper airships, today planned to re-enact the first overwater flight made in this country 25 years ago.
Martin set a record in 1912—when he was 26—by flying the 33 miles from Newport Harbor, Cal., to Avalon, Catalina island. Two years earlier, Rene Bleriot, a Frenchman, had crossed the English channel in a flight 10 miles shorter than Martin's.
Martin will use one of his giant Clipper ships for the flight marking the twenty-fifth anniversary of his first attempt. His mother, Mrs. Minta De Long Martin, will accompany him as she did on many of his earlier trips.
