A sizeable crowd attended the Republican rally Saturday evening at the High School Gym where the public was given the opportunity to talk with the GOP candidates in tomorrow's primary election.
In addition to the local candidates, Mrs. Edith Bullock of Kotzebue and Sen. John Coghill of Nenana were there. Sen. Coghill was the featured speaker. He is unopposed for re-election to the Senate in his district. Mrs. Bullock is one of the GOP candidates for state senator from District M.
Coghill was interrupted by applause several times during his talk. He said the Republican party looks to the future in its legislative program with an aim for a balanced state economy and the government doing only those things that the individual cannot do for himself.
He called attention to the fact that 1960 marks 100 years of the Republican party founded by Abraham Lincoln who set forth three requirements of government: that it be honest; that it have integrity, and that it be humble.
Mrs. Bullock noted a growing tendency of the large population centers to dominate the state legislature and that it was for this reason she is running for state office- to provide representation for the outlying areas.
After a film "Flying Dentist" by Dr. Lee McKinley, Republican candidate for nomination as U.S. Senator, refreshments were served and the candidates were interviewed by the public.
