Roberson Heads Move To Put Beer Out In Holmes County Anti-Saloon League Representative Here; 40-50 Present

The Rev. Homer W. Roberson, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Lexington, was named general chairman of the current drive to put beer and wine out of Holmes county, in a meeting held Sunday afternoon in Lexington. From 40 to 50 people were present at this meeting.

The meeting was held for the purpose of perfecting the organization of the move and to canvass the returns of the petitions which have been circulating in the county for the past several days. All of the petitions were not in so they were not presented to the Holmes county Board of Supervisors Monday at its November meeting as planned. Signatures of 20 per cent of the qualified electors are required for an election to be called.

Resolutions were passed to have Chairman Roberson appoint precinct chairmen to get the people out to vote when the election is called. A committee composed of Frank W. Gwin, Tchula; Mr. Jackson, the Anti-Saloon League representative, and the Rev. C. J. Olander, of Swiftown, Leflore county, was named to draw up resolutions to be published in the newspapers and presented law enforcement officials saying that persons behind this move to put beer and wine out of Holmes county were solidly behind the law enforcement officials in their efforts to enforce the law.

According to reports of the meeting two towns in the county were not represented at all at the meeting and those represented had only a few people present. No reason was given for the small attendance.
