Full Text

Capt. E. P. S. Myers commanding Post here, who has obtained considerable notoriety by his activity on the night of the 8th of November, and whose prompt action, as we believe, saved our city from a general riot, the probable results of which are appalling to think of, has by His Excellency Gov. Warmoth, been commissioned as Brigadier General of the State Militia. Many of our Democratic friends were thrown into a state of excitement by this act of the Governor and divers rumors got circulated as to the certainties and probabilities of our future. Gentlemen, the Era will take the responsibility of saying to you all, that no officer, from the Commander-in-Chief down to the lowest subaltern, will require anything more than a compliance with the laws of the State and the United States and will be satisfied with nothing less. We say it unauthorized, save by His Excellency's official acts. We believe order and a respect for the laws will be required and maintained at any cost and at all hazards. "Let us have peace."

The new Brigadier will please accept our congratulations.
