A terrible disaster has befallen the volunteers who are fighting the red savages in Oregon. On Sunday the Indians attacked a company of about fifty men, and nearly all were slaughtered. Gen. Howard was as usual some twenty miles away. Various despatches indicate that the Indians are having things their own way, and that the troops can do little to check them. The latest plan of Gen. Howard is to telegraph for a steamboat with which to fight the Indians.
