THEIR AMBITION A BIG MAJORITY

Work of the Republicans in Sedgwick County

COMPLETE VICTORY SURE

Ticket Will Come in From County With a Majority.

Beginning tomorrow the campaign in Sedgwick county opens, the first gun being the principal meeting to be held in the state this fall the joint debate between Mr. Hatley and Mr. Craddeck.

So far as the result in Sedgwick county is concerned, it is not questioned seriously by any of the party workers that the election of the Republican county ticket from top to bottom is certain. The most the opposition has permitted itself to assert is that the result will be mixed. The Republicans know that the result will not be mixed, but will be a pronounced landslide.

Owing to marked changes in political conditions and in population the Republican victory promises to be notable. Any reader of the daily papers is aware of the significant fact that in two years there has not been a known instance of Republican in Sedgwick county leaving his party. On the other hand the Populists and Democrats who have this year and last attached themselves to the Republican party reach a high number. That number, as every one in the county understands, includes men who have been high in the counsels of the fusion forces and among their most effective workers.

There is not a township in the county, nor a precinct in the city where Republicans have not reached additions from the ranks of the fusionists and additions of active partisan workers at that. So great has been this change that at this moment there is every indication that the Republicans are going to carry the county, outside of the city, a thing which has not transpired for years.

The change in the city is one of population. The voting citizens are greatly in excess of those at the last election. The polls show that 30 per cent of these new citizens are Republicans. This will augment the usual Republican majority given by the city in county elections a majority the city has never failed to give.

This Republican condition, certain to result in an overwhelming victory, is not news to any one. The opposition is aware of it as well as the Republicans. It was understood at the time of the fusion county convention when most of the candidates were forced onto the ticket against their judgment and with knowledge that they were being sacrificed. Some of the nominations were offered to as high as four men before any one could be found to accept them. There was not a fighting show for the fusion ticket.
