Gentlemen of the quill, scissors, stick and sheep's-foot, who have so cordially welcomed us, the Junior, to your ranks, we thank you most heartily. May you all live happily one hundred years, and have fat gobblers innumerable lavished upon you every Thanksgiving.
There are some cotemporaries who don't like us, and give us very gingerly and mixed up notices, like the following:
"J R Cornelius has become associated in the publication of the Lewisburg Chronicle. He avows himself an ardent Native. The old publisher is an abolition Whig, and the editor what some people would term a 'bogus Democrat.' Rather a congenial trio, that.--Hollidaysburg Standard."
Quite an analysis. He tells all he knows about us, and then makes mouths at our seniors. The thunders of last fall's election must have soured the "milk of human kindness" in the Standard's "buzzum" and turned it to Dutch cheese. Don't be growling about Americanism, but stop patting paddyism so caressingly. We don't like to see the Gay and Incomparable, as you are so fondly self-christened, diddling after the remains of the Democratic party, which is becoming more and more phantom-like every day, and will soon entirely lose itself in the great American hurricane.
