The St. Louis Warehouse Robbery.—The day before Mr. T. Boylan delivered up police headquarters to General Baldey, that is, about the seventeenth of September, that gentleman was informed that thieves had stolen several bags of coffee from the St. Louis warehouse, on Front street, but in the confusion of the change no arrest was made. However, it seems that keen eyes have watched the place ever since, and Sunday night Officer Houlihan spotted two men near the warehouse under rather suspicious circumstances. He pretended not to notice them, but when at a proper distance turned and took an observation, which was a sharp proceeding, for he witnessed the rascals at work prying open a door. He then glided down on the pair and attempted, like the fighting Irishman, to surround them, but the rascals would not have it. They fled in opposite directions, but Houlihan captured one, who says his name is Thomas Jefferson. The other burglar escaped, but returned to the scene soon afterward. A sack of grain had been stolen and secreted near the warehouse, which fact was known to a private watchman, who was waiting and expecting to see some one call for it. He did not wait long, for a person came along and was about to lift the sack, when the watchman fell down on him suddenly. It is thought that these are the rascals who stole the coffee. Judge McArthur gave them free boarding in the Parish Prison temporarily.
