The Privateers being cruising off the Cape came athwart of a Sloop bound in, which they took, on board of which were the Prize Snow's Papers for a Cargo to be got ready by a certain Time, while she should keep cruising : the Privateers kept cruising off the Cape till the Snow appeared, when they made for, and came up with. and hail'd her : the Captain of which (being an Irishman) inform'd them that he had taken two Dutchmen. the Captains of which he had on board. and was bound with them to Mont Christi ; they congratulated him on his Success, and told him they were also bound to the same Port the Privateers not being willing to loose any of their Men by engaging kept Company ; as soon as they came to an Anchor, Capt. Spring invited him on-board, and he little surmising of the Intrigue, came; when to his Surprize he found himself a Prisoner ; his papers being produced he begg'd for God's Sake that he might be put a shore at some French Port, otherwise he should be hanged, and immediately hallowed out to his Lieutenant to throw the Small-Arms over board. which he did : she had. tis said, 1200 Stand of Arms on board, besides a great Quantity of Powder and Shot, and 8 or 9000 Johannes in Specie, There was a French and an Irish Capt. on board, the latter of whom got the Letter of Marque at Antigua. The Snow is sent to Philadelphia.
