This Day Samuel Henshaw, late Master of the Brig Columbine of this Port, came to Town via Rhode Island, who informs that he sailed from New Providence the 6th of June, and on the 16th of the same Month, in Lat. 37. 30. Long. 74, he was taken by a French Privateer Sloop of 16 Guns and 120 Men, from Martinico, and that the same Privateer had taken Capt. Messenger in a Ship belonging to London, as also a Whaler, which the Master ransomed for 400 Dollars, and took all the English Prisoners on board, and with them arrived safe at Newport.

When Capt. Henshaw left the Privateer, he was in Chase of six Sail steering S.S.E. A few Days before they took the above mentioned Vessel. She fell in with a Letter of Marque Brig from the Continent, that engaged her several Hours, killed five of her Men, wounded many of their Officers and got clear off.
