Full Text

Forgery.—The Jackson prints are making a violent ado about a certain letter recently published, and signed "Andrew Jackson," touching the imprisoned missionaries; wherein the writer charges those who are sent to diffuse the gospel among the heathen, with making more mischief than they do good. The letter, we believe, was originally published, with commendation (of course) in a Jackson print; and is now, after having been copied into the Opposition papers, denounced by other Jackson prints as a forgery. If forged, the Jackson men themselves are the counterfeiters. It was designed for effect among a certain class; and we have heard great merit claimed for Gen. Jackson's independence, and all that sort of thing, as evinced in this very forgery. Among the Wright and Owen party in this city, who have recently declared for Jackson and Van Buren, this very letter against the missionaries is used with great effect. The object was accomplished—and now the forgery is alleged, in order to hook converts from among Christians.—[N. Y. Advocate and Journal.
