Kentucky Senator's Remarks Predicated Attorney General's Chicago Address as to Policy He Followed in Filling Twenty-four Judgeships.
(By Associated Press.)
Washington, June 3.--President Harding and Attorney General Daugherty were assailed today in the senate by Senator Stanley, Democrat, of Kentucky, in connection with statements credited yesterday to the president with the senate attack on Secretary Hoover, and to assertions made by the attorney general in his Chicago address yesterday as to the policy to be followed in filling twenty-four judgeships, created under a bill recently passed by the senate and house.
Senator Stanley, interpreting the president's remarks on the basis of some newspaper accounts to refer to criticism of all cabinet officers, including Daugherty, said that President Harding was attempting to "stifle, if not muzzle the press."
