The price of lead has gone to unprecedented heights, but, as Secretary of Commerce Redfield would say, let no one be misled into the belief that war orders have had anything to do with this increased favorable balance of trade. Oh, no! The increased price is due entirely to the adoption of Democratic economic policies. Or perhaps the increase is 'purely psychological'. Or it may be it is a state of mind".
The balance in the general fund in the national Treasury at the close of business Saturday, June the 12th, was $18,865,726.74, as compared with $137,215,571.51 on the corresponding date two years ago. The excess of all expenditures over receipts for this fiscal year, on that date was $127,325,406.07, commonly referred to as the deficit.
