SPEECH OF MACDONALD.

To his Highlanders when going into battle, against Buonaparte in Egypt

Ye're the muckle lads o'Scotland, and I am Donald Macdonald, your chief· And there are Bonaparte's invincibles--but ye are this day to prove that they are vincibles -and here are the English who expect great things o'ye to day.

I need not tell ye, that nane o'ye must turn his back -for I weel ken that not ane o'ye wull do that ; but ay mon o'ye this day, is to kill fifty Frenchmen.

Remember ye came frae the lond o' oaks--and the bonniest lasses in a' the warld ; remember that ye came frae the lond in which Ramsay. Lindsay, and Buchanan wrote -and the bonny lond where Wallace and Bruce fought, conquered, and bled.

But na mair o that -So aff wi that trumpery frae your bonnets let the bugles and bagpipes tune up wi' the slogan, and out wi' the muckle whanger-- I ken weel-my lads, there they are.
