MEMPHIS.

Closing of the Fair-Cotton Premiums.

Memphis, Oct. 30.-The Shelby county fair closed to-day, a grand success. The exhibition of cotton was never surpassed, 3,200 bales having been entered. The cotton factors' premiums of $500 for the best bale, was awarded to E. F. Meagher, of Mississippi; the second premium of $250 to Messrs M. and A. Collins, of Arkansas; for the best two bales, $250, to W. E. Persons for second best two bales, $150, to R. W. Jones for best three bales, $300. W. F. Whitten, for second best three bales. J. H. Diall for best five bales, $250, to W. C. Eggleston, of Yalabusha county, Miss, second best five bales. W. B. McShane.

Premium to a Lady.

For the best Tennessee bale a premium of $200 was awarded to Miss Maggie Barnes.

The cotton exhibited will be sold next week at the Chamber of Commerce at auction.

Trotting stock.

The trotting match for $500 was won by Morrissey, beating Pilot Temple and Frank Time. 2:12. Pilot Temple won the first heat and the second was dead heat between him and Morrissey.
