LONDON, (AP) Russian geographers today claimed vast new discoveries that have "completely remade" their maps of eastern Siberia.
They said their finds include new rivers, plateaus, glaciers, mountain ranges and a 22,500-foot peak which was named for Joseph Stalin.
Moscow radio, announcing this, quoted an article in the Soviet government organ Izvestia by academician Evgeny Pavolovsky, president of the U.S.S.R. Geographical Society.
The report said "one of highest mountain formations on the earth" was also turned up. Henceforth it will appear on Russian maps as "the Range of the Academy of Sciences."
