"The growing sentiment of a large number of the people in many of the southern states to unload the obligations of the state by the summary and dishonest process of repudiation is attracting much attention among leading capitalists throughout the country."
Such statements are again appearing in the republican papers, and they name Virginia, Arkansas and Tennessee as leading repudiating states. As the people of these states have very recently voted flatly against repudiation, the animus of the charge is apparent. We would call the attention of the republican organs to the "moral" attitude of Minnesota, which has been a repudiating state for twenty years, and positively refuses to pay her debts. Massachusetts has also put herself on record as a repudiating state, as we have repeatedly shown.—Courier Journal.
The unanimity with which the press of the state has rebuked the assumption of the bond holders to dictate terms to the state, is some proof that it was not bought up by and run in the interest of the bond-holders during the canvass. But to those who are fond of believing in dishonesty and rascality, there is still the charge that newspapers, the conventions, and the Democratic and republican parties were all run by and in the interests of the railroads. The railroads disposed of, and it would be charged that the "office-holding class" ran everything against the public for "pure cussedness."—Nashville Herald.
