It is reported, that on being arrested, the robber confessed the whole affair at once, but refused to tell where the money was, except on receiving a pledge from the bank that the officers and directors should not appear against him, and the sum of thirty thousand dollars for his own use and benefit, and his terms were complied with.
The New York Commercial says, in addition to the above, "Mr. Bell alias Laidly was concerned, it is said, in robbing the Boston Railroad Office, sometime ago, of $24,000, and has been claimed by the authorities of Massachusetts for trial on the charge. It is probable, therefore, that his compromise with the bank will not save him from the state prison until he--Bost. Cour."
