Lane Cricher Is Given Promotion in Department of Commerce at Washington.
Lane Cricher, an Ironton boy, has been given a very flattering promotion in the Department of Commerce, Washington, D. C. and is now chief of the Transportation Division, an honor never before held by a man of his age. Mr. Cricher has been in Washington the past seven years, going there as secretary for William N. Doak, vice president of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen, who is now favorably mentioned as Mr. Hoover's choice as Secretary of Labor. Mr. Cricher, four years ago was employed by Secty. Hoover in the Department of Commerce, and has steadily worked his way to the top, and according to Congressman Thos. A. Jenkins, is one of the best posted men in the United States on transportation and transportation rates. Lane Cricher will be remembered by hundreds of Irontonians. He is the son of Mr. Joseph and Ida Cricher of this city. He graduated from the Ironton High School in 1916, and attended Columbia University graduating there in 1922. Upon finishing his course there he accepted the position as secretary to W. N. Doak who at that time was very prominently connected with settling the nation wide railroad strike. Since then he has been honored several times by promotions in the Department of Commerce, and the news of his recent appointment as chief of the Transportation Division will be very pleasing to his many Ironton friends. A few years ago, Mr. Cricher spoke in both Huntington and Portsmouth on river transportation, and Major Audry of Huntington spoke of him in very praising terms at a recent meeting the Tri-State Chamber of Commerce held in the West Virginia city.
